  • Good price?

    Hi All,

Well time to upgrade to golf...just not big enough with the growing family!! Just about to buy a passat 125 TDI and am wondering whether $44,800 sounds like a good deal? MY13 with only add ons being rubber floor mats and boot liner.

    Help would be apprecaited.

Firstly, see if you are entitled to a corporate discount. Many people don't know this, but if you work for a big company, you are entitled to it. You should expect a 10-12% discount on a Passat.

If not, I would advice you to use a car broker. Many of them would do it for free now. Just tell them the best quote you have, they will always beat it. They can get you the car at fleet discount that is not normally available to private buyers. I got 12% discount (over $6000) on a factory ordered Passat. I'm sure there is more room for negotiation if I want a stock car.

IMO, you should be able to get a Passat at $43990 at least.

Thanks, yep corporate discount already applied. So if I get corporate discount, should I be able to do less than $43990?

I can't say. It depends on your company's agreement with VW. I work for Qld government who obviously buys fleet cars from VW, so I got good discount. The good thing about using car broker is they will do all the negotiations for you, even compare prices between dealers. There are many VW dealers and all of them can apply corporate discount. To me, corporate discount is like RRP, if the dealer want my business, they better do something better than the corporate discounts.

Have a look at this site:

Novated Lease Calculator, Car Lease Calculator Australia | FleetPartners

This is the leasing company my car broker affiliate with. You don't have to do a lease with them to get the same price. It is completely separate. If you select the car maker and model, it will tell you how much saving they can obtain using fleet discount. For a Passat Sedan you get $5229 discount.

Note the price it is quoted on this website is GST free, as novated lease doesn't attract GST. However, for a GST inclusive price, you don't just multiply the figure by 110%, because of the ORCs, stamp duty, rego, 3rd party do not attract GST.
