Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC De-activation of Daytime Driving lights

    Hi,
I own a VW Polo GTI 2012 model (Austalian Edition).
How do I de-activate the daytime driving lights?
It does not have Xenen DL's and uses low beam as a DL.
There have been a few posts on this forum but none relevant.
The generic manual that comes with car not helpful as the method indicated does not work.
The available in-car menu that can be accessed on this model car DOES NOT give options re lighting.
    Help please.

      Inactivation of Daytime Driving Lights

      Hi,
This is quite a problem, a local VW shop has not been able to fix this even with their current up to date software, they are sourcing a patch from th UK.
      I'll post results (if any)

I'm not sure of VW's, but most of the North American cars that come with DRL's have a DRL fuse that can simply be pulled to disable them.

          Hi,
Unlikely as the Polo in Australia (without Xenon lights) uses the main low beam as it's daytime driving lights.
Removing fuse would probably inactivate the headlights as well, but I will confirm.

            Yes, thanks.
Local VW shop have not yet been able to do this even with Vag Com software, they think it may he hard wired in, which IMHO is unlikely.
They are following it as they have got a bit interested.
I shall let you know, I have passed on your comment.

              Daytime Driving Lights

Local VW dealer, here in Melbourne had a look at car.
Their advice is that this setting CANNOT be changed, even with VAG-COM.
I await advice to the contrary..

Why bother They are there as a safety feature which is in fact compulsory in some countries like Canada.

You cant see them when driving so whats the problem.

I would sooner be seen that hit cos they didnt see me.

Why do you guys even want to get rid of them? It sets your car apart from the rest.

Hi, maybe, but that is not what this post is addressing.
People think I am a Volvo driver in the wrong car.
                    Ignominy.

Well seeing as Audi, BMW, VW, Holden, Mercedes, Volvo and even some of the Korean Fosters cans have them we are not alone.

Certainly look better than the Wanker lights you see on older model cars Personally I think every car should have them as it makes them easier to see especially dark colored ones on dull days.

Question?? Why is it that dark colored cars dont put their headlights on till its almost dark.???

Irritates the hell out of me.

Was about to turn right one night through a gap in the traffic. Just as well as I hesitated as the so called gap was a black Falcon with no lights on at 8 30 at night.
