  • New here - future Tiguan owner

    Just want to say hello!

I have done some test driving on Tiguan 132TSI Pacific Auto and so far like it a lot. I actually like the free comfort pack included in the model as my wife and I don't care too much about the car performance and also the lack of DSG. I mean it is a Turbo anyway ....

I had look at other SUVs and just feel that VW has a premium feel for it. Originally I was going for Forester as I am driving an Impreza but felt that Forester has not improved over the last 10 years.

The only issue I had is the smallish luggage space. I think it is even smaller than a Forester. I need to put a pram to see how much space is left in the boot ....

Does anyone know if there will be 2013 Tiguan coming out soon? The reason I ask is that we are looking at buying one right now, and for the configuration we want the earliest we can get the car is February next year. I am just wondering whether to order the car now or wait for next year?

There may be a minor update, however last major update was 12 months ago in Sept 2011 when they changed the front & rear end and went from 125TSI to 132TSI. I wouldn't imagine they are due for a new model for a couple of years at least.

Having said that if you like the 6 speed auto (they are generally pretty reliable) then the Pacific is very good value.

Good thing about the boot is that all the anchor points are on the back of the rear seats so that you don't have belts running through the luggage space. Yes the boot is on the small side however you just have to be good at packing... and I bought a set of roof racks which I keep on for "emergency" purchases.

Thank you for the response. I am now negotiating with car sales on price. Looking at leather and sunroof option. My wife loves the panoramic sunroof but I am little bit worried whether it gets broken easily after hearing horror stories of broken sunroof on cars in the early 2000's.

In regard to the roof racks, I think it should be much cheaper to source it elsewhere rather than order it via VW. Is that correct? Also, I am thinking of adding own Sat Nav option later down the track but not now.

Have a look at the Tiguan section of this forum as there's a heap of useful information here for what people have done to their cars.

You'll have to take care with roof racks and sun roofs as some sit too low for a sunroof. Yes and dealer accessories/upgrade options are on the expensive side. Depending on how handy you are you can do a lot of these upgrades yourself.

Also there's a thread in there for Tiguan pricing - http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...ing-29613.html

I've upgraded both my stereo and bluetooth unit. I ended up with the non sat-nav unit (RCD510), however for around $1000 you can install a new sat-nav (VW genuine RNS510). There's a few threads in Tiguan forum - http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...uan-74319.html or you can also look at the VW Car Audio and Electronics section.
Anyway good louck with the dealer. Once you have the car on the way you can start planning your upgrades

In regards to the sunroof, make sure the drainage tubes are plumbed correctly and always clear as a few of them have been known to fill up with small leave/gunk and then leak into the car.

I haven't heard of any of them breaking though.

Did you fold/slide the rear split bench seat or remove the parcel shelf?

It will depend on what pram you have. Suggest taking it to the delaers or if you get a chance to take a demo home for the night, test it then.

Larger prams may be a problem. You can always change prams....

How should I check this? I never have a car with sunroof before. Would it be an obvious observation?

I have a Bugaboo Cameleon ..... I just bought it new and have just assembled it. So I will take it to my dealer to see if it fits.

We had one of those prams and it packs down pretty compact if I remember rightly (been a couple of years).

I'm almost certain that one will fit even with the bassinet attachment. Though I'd still take it to the dealers to make sure.

...and I think your wife would be upset if you told her she had to sell her Bugaboo too - I know mine wouldn't have coped

To be honest i don't really know as i don't have a sunroof but i have read about a number of forum members on here and vortex with the problem.

Might be best to ask your dealer to show you.

There is a difference between the panoramic glass roof which doesn't open and the smaller sunroof on earlier models which will tilt and/or slide.

With the tilting sunroof you can have clearance issues with low profile roof racks so best to test fit racks before handing over cash.

With the panoramic glass you won't have any clearance issues as these are fixed. I haven't heard any problems with these leaking.
