Hi all,
Just moved over from the UK and am starting my second month in Brisbane. I've been a long time dub-head and have owned quite a few in my time, mostly Golfs though.
One of the cars worth mentioning was my 1988 MKII Golf GTi 16v in monza blue (hence my forum name!)... I did a 2.0L ABF block conversion from a MK3 Golf GTi 16V and had a new crank installed for good measure along with new KS pistons (plus just about every other nut, bolt, sensor etc...). The head was also rebuilt and gas flowed and it made a very healthy 172 bhp with 155 ft/lb on the rolling road. The car sat on coilovers and 7x15 BBS RM split rim alloys and had a miltek stainless steel exhaust. Fuelling was also altered slightly by modifying the WUR (a little trick the guys at Stealth racing did for me) - gotta love that Bosch k-jet mechanical FI system...
I am not a traffic light hero or anything - but if you are gonna come right up my arse on the motorway and try to force me off the road, be prepared for the repercussions! I just loved seeing the look on people's faces (mostly Merc and BMW drivers!) when they just got their a$$ handed to them by a 1988 golf (which in all fairness had a fair bit of money thrown at it .. but still, the look was priceless)
I remember having a little tussle with an 2003 Audi S3 and he only started pulling away when we got to about 130 mph (210 km/h) he couldn't believe it and we actually stopped on the side of the (private) road and had a really good chat about cars and VW's/Audi in general - he was a top bloke. That is what I love about the VW scene, I have met so many cool people in the 20 odd years I have been into veedubs.

Unfortunately some tit taxi driver ran into the back of her and she went to the big scrap yard in heaven (one of the saddest days of my life!). But alas it was time to move on and so I went and bought a car I had always told myself I would own one day.... a Corrado VR6. I managed to find a fairly low mileage 1995 Corrado VR6 Storm in Mystic blue. It looked a bit rough on the outside, but mechanically and structurally it was sound. I could go on about this car for ages, but if you are interested in everything that happened to it then take a look at my owner's thread on the corrado forums (warning : make a big cup of tea beforehand as the thread is long and has lots of photos!)

(i hope that is ok to do on this forum? - if not then mods please just delete the link)
Anyway - I am looking for my first car in Australia and from what I have seen, decent German machinery has a serious price premium. So whilst my first car here may not be a VW/Audi, I am no doubt sure that sometime in the future i will get my mitts on something which puts that smile back on my face. Ohh...and I WILL own another MK2 golf in the future
Thanks all, look forward to maybe meeting some more people in the next Brisbane meet (as long as I actually have a car by then so i can get there!)
cheers
