Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD Hello all.

    Hey everyone,

Though i would drop in as we are looking at getting the wife a new car. We are either looking at a Passat, Tiguan or Touareg. The wife currently has a BMW 120i and with our son (now 2yrs in a week) we need something a little bigger. The cabin of the Tiguan is bigger enough but we are not sure about the boot size.

That's where looking at the Passat and Touareg come into it. Then possibly even change my car, which i have 370Z at the moment for a Golf R again something a bit more child friendly LOL, but still has a fun factor to it.

Hope to chat soon guys and girls.

    Welcome to the fourms mate.
Have you considered a skoda octavia wagon or superb wagon for extra boot space and more options?

The tiguan has folding/sliding split rear seats and so far i have found it suitable for every purpose i have given it (except i haven't tried the kidlet one yet)

      Hi team_v,

To be honest i have "noticed" the Skoda's but i believe the wife would turn her nose up too it LOL. Before the 120i she only ever had basic cars like a Civic and crappy hand me downs from her parents, so she got a bit spoilt when we got the 120i. The other thing is now she has a taste for Leather interiors the cloth ones arent much of a choice ATM, although i am trying to convince otherwise.

Also i don't mind the look of your Tiguan in your sig and thread, nice work. Also from the quick read i had did you get yours from highway Auto Springwood. If so how was the expiernce there as that's where we are looking ATM.

Highway auto were the best of the bunch available when i got my car.
I spoke to Andrew Jacques and he was a big help.

I belive you can get leather and all the creature comforts in the skoda as you would in the VW range and they actually come in a touch chepaer as it is lesser known (although the same family as VW/Audi etc so it might be worth checking out if nothing more than for comparison purposes.)

Let us know how you go and hopefully we can get you out to some of our events in the SE-QLD Euro scene.

I can also tell you servicing and parts pricing at Highway is a lot better than Austral.

If you can be bothered making the trip though, IMO Ian Boettcher VW down at Ipswich is still the best.

Thanks for the replies again guys. Will have to at least have a look at the Skoda's then. Also good to know about the servicing at Highway, even though we have used European Auto around the corner for a while now on her BMW and my 370.

Hi again all pending finance approval which should be through by Monday we will new owners of a White Tiguan (wifes/family car) and a White Golf R, which will be mine and slightly more practical than my 370Z yet still retain the fun value when needed. The other advantage of both cars also will be able to satisfy my need to modify cars, which will be much easier with these 2 than our current cars.

Lastly to team_v Andrew actual still remembers you and the whole sales team have been great so far in this process. Hopefully will get to see some others on a cruise sometime also.

              Regards

Welcome, love the 370Z, brings back that 60s 70s Japanese sports car back, very stylish.

Great choice on the VWs... you'll love them. You'll miss RWD on occasion, but not teenagers trying to race you at lights. Great all-rounder.

White 132TSI Pacific with 16" wheels, cloth interior. Pretty much standard as the car was on the lot, no KM's on it. We haven't bothered with the extras like Nav (have multi iphones, ipads etc) or stereo (prefer to go after market there), I have also checked a few of the little mods you have done on yours and definately like what i see.

Definately up for that. Went on a couple of cruises with the 370Z and generally enjoy the get togethers.

Andrew seems quite a good bloke and so did the rest of the team there, which is always a good start.

Will miss the RWD a bit but i did have an STI before and MX5 before the STI, so i really enjoy all types of cars. It's just that some praticality was needed and the Golf R was there to be had. Hopefully the finance isn't a problem and i should be driving home mid week in 2 new cars. Plus to top it off it's our sons 2nd birthday Wednesday, so should be a great week .
