Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • gone is the F6 Typhoon! Looking at a 2007 Polo GTI with 40,000 kms. ( new project )

    Hi Guys,

I used to own a Polo GTI years ago when I lived in the UK. I have just sold my F6 Typhoon and I am very keen to buy a 2007 GTI I've seen. Just wanting to know any problems anyone may have had and a little about the ICC ( it looks a bit basic, can an ipod be connected and does it have AUX outputs? )
What sort of Mods have people done and what kind of power can you get out of the 1.8T without stressing all the factory internals?

I'm new to this forum malarky so any info whatsoever will be much appreciated!
I'm thinking of buying the car this week, if theirs anyone in Perth that would be willing to take a look at it for me, I'm happy to shout you a few $$!
    Cheers. Lewis.

Hmmm... just sold an F6 Typhoon...buying a Polo GTI...therefore, probably going to have thirst for more power...

Is it just me, or do I see the makings of an EPIC build thread?

      Hey there,

Come have a chat in the Polo section. Stock it's pretty basic, with a tune and couple of supporting mods, should be good for 130-140 kw atw on a conservative dyno. The polo is not about peak power, the strength is its mid range torque.

General mods include intake section before the air box, diverter valve, dump pipe and sports cat and of course a tune. Stock turbo can do roughly 20psi, stock is around 8.

IMO, to get the best out of it it will need some suspension work, but that all comes with time and what you want from it, a big engine difference from the F6.

You can connect an audio cable (mini jack headphone style) to a breakout box, I have one lying around if you are interested.

          Hi Lewis,

Welcome to the forum, there were a few local members with Polo GTIs but I think they've been sold & moved on etc... Good luck!

Have a look in the 9N/9N3 section as mentioned

          Cheers
