Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New VW owner with a few questions

    Hi everyone, this looks like a very friendly and communicative forum.
    I've just purchased a brand spanking new 2011 VW Transporter Crewvan. Twin Turbo diesel, 132kW. Like all tradies, I need a few mods.
    * 240v power inverter
    * Racking/ shelving (2nd hand is fine)
    * wanting to find an old centre console (just next to the handbrake)
    * Insulation - mostly for noise (its not bad, but just cos I can) and hopefully for heat too.
    * I'm having a mate, help wire it up for multiple 12V outlets ^& the 240v 100W inverter.

    Is there anything I need to be aware of? Are there any VW particulars that I need to keep in mind?
    Where can i get 2nd's parts and a centre console?
    Who might have racking/ shelving?
    Is it necessary to install dual batteries for infrequent relatively low power needs (500W)?

    And whats the difference between a T4 & T5?

    Thanks everyone

    Have a look on classifieds websites, mainly gumtree. I'm not sure about the transporter but I saw racks for the Jetta going for cheap. I'll check on gumtree for you now..

      Couldn't find much of what you listed but found a towbar if that's any use..

      also random misc parts..
      Vw T4 Transporter Van,Caravelle, bundle of parts,16''alloy Wheels | Other Parts & Accessories | Gumtree Australia Blacktown Area - Blacktown

      Also eBay.. I'm going to be sourcing most of my parts from there, it's worth while checking it out.. There's some decent priced racking for the VW tranporter (if this is what you meant):

      Hope it helped,

          On second thoughts, one of your suggestions lead to another thought, which did help! A lot in fact. Thanks again for your input.
