Hi I'm shenan, just wondering why people are going on and on about the skoda octavia wagon and how bad they feel when looking at a viva wagon from behind, when realising its not. For starters daewoo designed the 05/06 lacetti wagon like the sedan long before going bust in- was it 04? and gm buying them out. The octavia wagon is a obvious use of the lacetti and holden viva wagon body, they would of more than likely bought the plans from daewoo before they went belly up. Holden stopped making the wagon in 08, stopped selling in 09. Now the new model is set to come out with not just a face lift like the skoda octavia that sells and sold for $10,000- $15,000 for the 2wd variant, than the holden viva ever did. The whole body has been updated with the added cruze 2.0 litre turbo diesel and a full new look inside and out. It now matches the skoda 2wd in everything and looks a hell of alot better. A early figure price of $23,000- $28,000. Im guessing the price will come down after the 1st 6 months of release. I wonder how long skoda will take to update the aged over priced body of theirs. There is only so many facelifts they can give it to keep the gullable purchasers coming back. Not to mention like the sedan and hatch its going to be made in australia.

Yeah, I definitely will compare these 2 models when purchasing my next car. Gullible purchasers - they'd be the people buying Holdens wouldn't they? Being sucked in by the badge to buy a Korean car? I think you should be over at the LS1 forums where you can discuss how awesome it is to drive a Korean car that is overpriced and overrated.
Made in Australia. Made in Korea, assembled in Australia.

One would assume this is a troll (Disgruntled Viva owner?) Otherwise they have too much time on their hands...

Coincidentally, I saw both cars today!
I saw a silver Viva wagon ahead of me in traffic so I closed up and followed for a bit so I could get a firm idea of how it looked. Then I pulled up next to it at some lights and while waiting to turn right, a silver Octavia RS wagon came around the corner and I got a good look as it approached, went by and disappeared.
From all this, I have no idea what the OP is going on about - they look as similar as any 2 wagons of similar size (with the Viva being noticably smaller).Resident grumpy old fart

These look like pretty good saftey ratings for cruze
The Australasian New Car Assessment
Program (ANCAP) announced in May 2009
that it has awarded the Cruze a full five
stars in their independent crash safety test,
with 35.04 out of a possible 37 points.
The following July, the China New Car
Assessment Program (C-NCAP) awarded
the Cruze a maximum five stars in their
independent crash safety test. The Cruze SE
1.6-liter tested scored a maximum of 16
points in side-impact collision, 14.44 in
front-end collision, and 15.73 in the 40
percent frontal offset collision. Euro
NCAP released its rating in November, with
the Chevrolet Cruze again receiving the full
five-star grading. While the Cruze scored 96
percent for adult protection, and 84
percent for child occupant protection, Euro
NCAP's figure for pedestrian protection is
quoted at significantly lower 34 percent.
In December 2009, the South Korean-
specification Cruze—the Daewoo Lacetti
Premiere—received the top rating of five
stars from the Korean New Car Assessment
Program (KNCAP). According to KNCAP, the
Lacetti Premiere received the five-star
rating in the frontal, offset frontal, side,
and whiplash tests.
Chevrolet Cruze hatchback (Germany)
In the United States, the Cruze received the
highest possible ratings of "good" in front,
side, rear and rollover crash protection
tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway
Safety (IIHS), which has recognized the
Cruze as a 2011 Top Safety Pick .
Moreover, The National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration
(NHTSA) has awarded the Cruze its highest
five-star rating for safety. The score is
broken down into maximum five-star
results for frontal impact (driver and
passenger), side impact (driver and
passenger), and for the side pole test
(driver). The NHTSA certified the Cruze's
rollover rating at four out of five stars.
The Chevrolet Cruze entered the World
Touring Car Championship in 2009. [108]
The car has proved successful since its
entry, with Yvan Muller winning the 2010
championship and the 2011 championship
placing first, second and third. The race
version uses a 1.6-liter turbocharged
gasoline engine developing 230 kilowatts
(310 PS) and 335 newton metres (247 lb·ft)
of torque. Yvan Muller, Alain Menu and
Robert Huff drive for Chevrolet and sit 1st,
2nd and 4th in the 2012 championship. Also won 2010 british touring car championship and 3rd 2011 with 2.0ltr naturally aspirated model.

Hey, 'Shenan' (is that really your name?). The Octavia you know is the Octavia II. That's right, mark 2. It is a revision of, guess what, the Octavia I released in 1996. The Octavia II was released in 2004. Sure there is a passing resemblance between the Octavia and the Viva, but as for who copied who and who was first to market with this look...
You might as well say the old facelifted Barina was ripped off by Skoda too, but sorry Skoda had the front end styling way before.
Not to mention anyone who has driven a Viva will know it was a low rent bottom feeder that was targeted at fleets on a budget.
As for safety, you're now saying the newer Cruze has a higher safety rating than the Octavia. So what? You were talking about the Viva, which does not have a higher safety rating. I expect when the new Octavia comes out it will have a better rating. Other than trolling I can't see the point in your posts, so how about you take it somewhere else?
