Golf 118 newbie

Been a long time reader, decided to join as lots of good info here!

Recently purchased(March 12) second hand 09 118TSI Golf...White...Adaptive Chassis Control.

Just wanting some advice...

I purchased my Golf in March this year and I only just found out that the base engine was replaced in Nov last year(due to loss of compression in cylinder as per engine fault thread)

The fact that this has occurred is driving me insane!! Why? bc I guess I bought this golf wanting the same hassle free motoring as my previous Golf Mk III GL(95 model). Please note, that currently the car is not giving me any issues whatsoever.
I sold the purchase of this car to my wife and myself as "safe", "reliable", "(world)car of the year", etc...and now to read all the issues with dsg shudder and engines it's really worrying me!(too late I know) We just want a safe, reliable car for when things go wrong with our other car(e.g. in for repair due to hail damage)

So now i'm thinking...do i trade up to possibly a MY12 118TSI, (assuming these don't have the same issues) BTW, do i inform potential buyers of engine situation?

or

do I buy extended warranty and keep going as is, with the knowledge that I have a new engine??

It is scary when you start reading some of the problems people have had with engine failure and DSG issues. I try not think about it too much. I just make sure I run quality 98ron fuel, have it serviced regularly and have the oil and water up to operating temps before driving it hard.

I would buy the VW extended warranty for piece of mind. I personally wouldn't tell a potential new owner it's had a new engine.

Just remember even though there might be a big thread about 118 TSI issues, there's only about 10 people posting in there. 10 out of the thousands of owners out there. As for engine rebuilds I've only seen 2 or 3 people here mention that, so even more rare, so there's no need to fret. If the car drives well then there's probably no point stressing over it. Extended warranty might be worth your while.

yes, i did consider the number of posters vs the number of cars out there! and of course, ppl always complain before compliment, just a little disappointed I guess as i wasn't expecting it.

Anyway, should i decide to deal with it and keep the car, i do have a query with regard to majority of my trips being <10km and mostly under 10 minutes unless stuck in traffic...is there anything special i need to do/be wary of in terms of maintenance?
I think VW deem this "harsh" driving and therefore my servicing should be every 7500kms as opposed to 15k?

Does it really need a "service" or can i get away with an oil & filter change every 6 months and major service annually, as i don't do 15k kms in a year?

If there are any threads surrounding low km/time driving, happy to be pointed in that direction!

I'm sure your manual would mention if that was a problem. Just drive slowly (lower revs) until the oil temp is up to 80+ degrees. Feel free to take the scenic route if you're not in a rush

This is what I would do in your circumstance if worried about the continual short drives.
