Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New to VW and cars in general!

    Hello Everyone!

My name is Bow and Im originaly from Melbourne but moved to Darwin last year and looking to upgrade from my 93 suzuki swift GTi (my first car) to the VW Golf 90TSI. I was looking for a slightly larger car with good safety features and airconditioning, but something reliable as i plan on keeping the car for the next 5-8 years.

Ive joined to find out more about owning a golf before i settle on a car at the dealership next weekend. At the moment VW have an EOFY sale where they have knocked off dealer delivery, stamp duty and 12 months rego, so doing my homework before i walk in. Ive had a few bad experiences with salesmen trying to take advantage because im a young female who doesnt know much about cars. (Thankfully the VW dealership here were fantastic, and realistic about what i was getting for my money)

I'd like to get an idea on how long people have had their Golfs for, what mechanical problems people commonly experience and also about the benefits of purchasing extended factory warranty.

If anyone can point me in the direction of some good threads that would help sme before I buy a golf, that would be much appreciated! Thank you and wish me luck next weekend!
