I have one (non Golf - same engine) and it's great, really hear it sucking air in.

The Carbonio intake looks good and certainly adds a bit of appeal to the engine bay.
Someone on VWVortex did a flow test and concluded that it did free up the intake path a little.
In terms of performance however you wont really notice anything significant - if at all.
Adds a slight bit of induction noise but its only slight.
If you want to keep the OEM look then not a bad option.
Im going for the VWR intake shortly....MY12 Golf R

You won't need a re-tune.

As Team V mentioned, its pretty easy to do.
Just need a set of TORX drivers and a common screwdriver for the hose clamps.
I dropped a screw in the engine bay and spent an hour looking for it.
Aside from that and a few swear words it was easy to do.
Whilst doing this I also swapped the standard air filter with a K&N panel.
This required taking off the entire engine cover.
You need to wiggle & lift the cover evenly to avoid snapping the mounting posts.
That was "fun" but got there in the end.....MY12 Golf R
