Hi folks,

Heartbreakingly, I think my beloved 205 gti might be on its last legs. I've been toying with the idea of moving over to a Mk6 gti as a slightly more refined replacement. I'm in two minds about it though: I haven't test driven a Mk6 yet (in part as a defensive technique against ordering one immediately) so I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's made a similar switch.

I've lurked around here for a while and there are some really interesting threads, I figured it was time to join for real.

There is no comparison - the MkVI Golf GTi will feel like a boat compared the 205 GTi . They just do not make cars like yours any more - even the Renault Clio Sports is softer, more refined and more forgiving than your car.

That said, the MKVI will be a very capable, powerful and luxurious boat.

Ah jeez, that doesn't make things any easier! Thanks for the reply though.

I've been mentally debating for the past week or so (while the pug's in the shop getting looked at) at exactly how much the repairs would need to be before I call the whole thing off and get a nice new machine. There is some attraction to being able to hear something other than road noise at highway speeds, though 205 go-kart fun is pretty inspiring...
