  • Crap, just plonked deposit for a new 118 tsi dsg

hi all, looking forward to some interesting discussions here in vww. just came back from the dealership after having ordered the 118tsi dsg comfortline in platinum grey.

have been going through the marketing booklet and am confused with the optical parking sensors mentioned as standard in the comfortline. can someone explain what the optical parking sensors are? in my mind, it means parking sensors but i get to see which areas are close to objects, which also means that it requires an lcd screen of some sort, but i don't think the comfortline comes with the lcd screen as standard?

but anyway, glad to have made the purchase... i think.

*lol, failed to mention that it's a jetta i bought*

congrats! I notice that you are in victoria, are they doing drive away deals over there like nsw?
i had a look at both the trendline & comfortline myself today, still haven made up my mind on which to get.
interested to hear what sort of deal you negotiated.

yeah, driveaway deals with none of the usual charges. and they weren't budging on price either. the 'sale' is only for cars that are in stock and delivery before end of june. had a look at the trendline (base model) and it wasn't much to look at, didn't have sensors or much options to choose from either, so decided to plonk a little more for the comfortline 118tsi. ended up paying about 32k

        Hej kivenage
My 2009 Jetta has the parking sensor and prob same as yours.
The LCD screen is the same that serves the radio (sound) and temperature selections momentary display when you reselect temperature for the aircon. Looked at a 2012 Jetta in the show room the other day and was surprised how the panel looked totally mostly unhanged with the multifunction LCD screen right in the middle as on mine.
The parking function comes on at low speed (as when you are parking) and consists of 4 pictorial beams extending 2 from the front and 2 from the rear. Each beam is made up of segements(5?) which go dark as you close the space . As the first segment goes dark the audible beep starts and gets faster as each subsequent segment goes "dark" till all segments are "dark" when the beeps become a single unbroken sound (and you are near the wall). The tone for the rear and the front sensors are different.
Very clever . Guess that could be called a "optical parking sensor"
It also has an reset/overide button; so you can bring the display up manually-instead of wait for it as you roll at slow speed-also handy for cancelling it when at low speed it tells you you are getting close to a drop of rain-gives nuisance warnings on rainy days, sometimes and when you hook the trailer on the rear.

@rory, thanks for clarifying the OPS, heh, i was secretly hoping that i'll get a 6 inch LCD surprise when collecting the car. =0)

@anthony, i'm coming from a 2007 RAV4, which was a good car, but that said, it was massive since it was taking only the 2 of us about 99% of the time and it was drinking a lot. after shopping around, also realized that we got a pretty crappy finance deal with the RAV. Live and learn i guess. so i'm really looking forward to the jetta, test driving it... i now noticed how much the RAV rolls around when turning, it's like a boat, which is now giving me motion sickness. heh.

i was hoping to get a GTI, and was also looking at the A3, but our other car is a 2 door hatch already so i had to compromise and get something with 4 doors. the jetta was a smart looking car, and now with the sales on, was a pretty good deal i think, and i wasn't really looking at the japanese marques.
