  • New Passat Wagon TDI for the Mrs.

Spent the last 2 weekends looking at cars to replace the wife's recently written-off 2007 Honda CRV.
Chose not to go the CRV route again as wanted something a bit more enjoyable to drive and plus we never really used the CRV for anything that needed a small soft roader... my other car is a Landcruiser.

We were originally looking at a Peugeot 308 Touring but their specials ended last month, so unless we wanted the demo there was no way to get anything under 40K. We then went to VW to check out the golf but agreed that the hatch was too small for two growing boys (with school bags, guitars, shopping etc.). so decided to test drive a golf wagon.
Unfortunately or fortunately enough, there happened to be a Passat wagon parked next to the Golf. Thats was the end of the story. (We also looked at the Mazda CX-5, Subaru XV, VW Tiguan)

The model we settled for is the TDI Highline.
We wanted to add the reverse camera and possibly park assist options but the dealer said that they couldn't find a vehicle with those. So we ended up going with the TDI Highline Black without any options.

Having said that, I've been looking around on the net now for what I can do once we receive the vehicle like:
    1) HID lights
    2) LED driving lights
    3) Reverse Camera (dealer was going to charge $1500).

Only concerns about the vehicle was something the wife read last night about the injectors on the TDI's failing at about 60K. She only managed to do 55K in 4.5 years on her CRV so doubt we'd be in warranty by the time we got around to 60K. Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated.

Oh yeah, and a big heeello to everyone!!

    Welcome,

Plethora of info available on this site.
Injectors were an issue with the previous model TDI's. different setup on the current cars.
    Advice?
Be sure to do a few long trips every now and then. Esp if this is your first diesel with a diesel particulate filter. They need to get hot, and real hot to purge the DPF's.

you will love the passat, we did a 300km trip yesterday and it was a dream to drive, nice and comfy and really quiet!

car now has 1200km on the clock and loving every minute of it.. esp as it returned under 6L/100kms yesterday . better than the 6MT Diesel Outback we replaced...
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....
