  • VIC New passat wagon tdi

    Hi everyone,

I'm from Melbourne and recently purchased a 2012 Passat Wagon TD, 'Iceland Grey' in colour.

I haven't actually taken delivery of the car yet, it's somewhere on a ship in the Indian ocean, about two days out from Fremantle. I've been tracking the the progress of my car since it left Europe on the 2/4/12. I discovered how to track V.W vehicle movements, when I happen to read a post on the subject, linked back to 'WaterCooled'. A very valuable article, as it turned out.

Anyway, I bought a Passat after months of research into various cars, finally concluding that the Passat best fulfilled my criteria of, safety, comfort, features, economy, quality, ride and style. The style may not be to everyones liking, including motor journos, who often describe the new shape as too conservative, boxy and or bland, but I quite like it and the interior in particular, just oozes luxury and simplicity. My car also comes with a few little extras, GPS and reverse camera, panoramic sun roof and auto tail gate. I hope these extras are worth it?

So, all there is to do now, is wait, in anticipation for the day when the dealer say's, "it's ready to pick up". I can honestly feel a bit like a child on Xmas eve. The anticipation and expectation just keeps building.

Anyway wish me luck, I'll try and post some pics when it arrives.

    Bye for now.

    Jon.

Same spec as my wife's car.
the audience is divided on the sat nav. This is our 3rd car with RNS510 and we use it a fair amount. especially my wife as she uses her car for travel between varying locations. in my car, it's really a luxury and convenient feature.
the RVC is good, but TBH I was disappointed that its not a badge popper like my golf. crispness and clarity on screen is less than that of the golf, and it's more fish-eye than the golf.

Similarly, audience is divided on the pana roof. I absolutely love it. beautiful feature. Wife would have preferred a heavier block out in full sun, but it doesn't really bother me, i'm use to driving convertibles and always have the shade open in my car. I need to RTFM as It's currently a bit annoying having to hold down the "blind retracting button" all the way as it opens and closes.. surely there's a short cut for "fast blind" like there is for "fast glass"

in summary, beautiful car. really, really nice car. 2 things I would have preferred though, is (1) flappy paddle steering wheel. I'm constantly using the paddles on my car, and from time to time try to do the same on the Passat, but they're not there.. But that's about to be rectified.
and, (2) kerb dipping passenger side mirror when reverse is engaged.

yes, both of these can be optioned, but come with other options that I deemed not necessary.

The paddles will be added to her car (info on how in this website) and teh reverse mirror dip. well I need to hook up a VagCom cable and see if it's in the BCU ad give it a go....

was just motivated to RTFM. seems there is a one touch fast feature for the blind!
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....

Thanks for the feedback. This is my first V.W, so really looking froward to getting my hands on it.

        Hi everone,

        Re: New Passat Wagon

Just checked the progress of my Passat Wagon from Germany. The ship is due to dock in Fremantle today and then depart for Melbourne tomorrow.
