Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Considering a downsize to a Golf GTI? - Snow??

    Hey all,

First post, and have been considering trading down from my dual cab 4wd (GLX-R Mitsubishi Triton, 2010 MN Diesel - Anyone interested?? hahaha). Was originally considering a Subaru Forester XT and other SUV'S, but after sitting in the GTD and taking it for a spin, considering fuel economy etc, I've all but dumped the idea of the XT (As much as it was alright, it lacked the refinement of the GTD).

Would probably jump on a Tiguan R-Line if they sold them in Australia, but they don't! So I'm looking at a GTI (The GTD was fun to drive, haven't checked out a GTI yet - Local dealer doesn't have one)... Looking to get up the snow as much as possible, and want to make sure the car has enough room!

Anyway, I'm going to throw a post in the pricing threads and general threads so I won't bore you all here with that...

    Anyway, cheers!

    Welcome mate.
I see you looked at the Tiguan.
I would have picked that (in either diesel or petrol)

If you are going to the snow make sure you don't option wheels too big for snow chains.

Hey mate - Haven't dropped yet - Any chance of interior upgrade to bring it in line with the GTI etc? Something like the R-Line pack would sell me...

What sort of interior upgrades would you be looking for?
The R line is exterior bodykit and wheels basically.

          Hey mate,

Was looking and saw there was apparently an interior upgrade pack as well? Pedantic as it may be, sports seats and the GTI wheel mainly...

            Ahh okay.
I wasn't aware of those options being included.

You can get leather seats or cloth but they aren't really true sports seats (like the race seats in the Golf R, you would have to go aftermarket)
I have found them fine for the limited "tracking" i have done.

Steering wheel can be swapped with relative ease.

The benefit is a folding/sliding rear bench seat so you can fit all your stuff in different configurations.
Also the cost is significantly less than the GTI/GTD.

Hey mate! Just think of all the snow-fun toys you could fit in/on one!

Would certainly consider AWD if you're going up a few times per winter.

Cheers! I'll look out for you in a couple of months time!
