Hey dudes. New Dub owner here.
I picked up a mint black '99 GTI late last year. I've been loving it so far. It had 72,000km on the clock when I picked it up, and came chipped and with a BMC filter, and lowered springs, so it scrapes on just about everything. Bone stock exterior and the GTI badge is gone from the tailgate.
At this point I've added a Sony media receiver head unit and a urethane dogbone mount. It's still on the original clutch, so I'm planning an ECS Stage 1 clutch kit, and I've been looking at KW V1 coilovers to replace the original struts and lowered springs. The lower control arm bushes are pretty rooted so I'll be going for some OEM solid rubber bushes.
Last week at 80,000km the AC compressor gave up. Then right on cue, the drivers' side window clips snapped.
I've had the compressor replaced, but now the mods I had planned are on the backburner, and it's parked in the garage waiting on window repair kits from the UK. In the meantime, I've fixed up the door lock electrical connections, and I'm adding Dynamat insulation to the doors, and putting in some Alpine component door speakers. Should be wicked when it's back in action.
I've been impressed with the amount of knowledge on this forum and on sites like uk-mkivs.net, seems like I'll have plenty of material to read up on as I mess around with the car. I'll be lurking the DIYs and engine mod discussions, will share whatever knowledge I can. Cheers lads
