Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Ahoy all,

I am very interested in buying a new polo and I wish I could drive the 77tsi but I can't due to p plate restrictions, and even if I get an exemption it will only be to go to work or uni which means I can't always drive the car.

So I've been looking at the 66tdi polo but after reading countless reviews and threads they all seem to point out there is a complete lack of power on take off, so my question is does anyone know of the best way to increase the power and make it a bit more like the tsi on take off.

    Hi Justin

Yeah the P plate rules are complete nonsense. Have you tried calling up VicRoads and asking them exactly why you can't use a 77kW Polo all the time when you could just as easily get a Golf R32 (3.2l V6) which is immensely quicker with no restrictions? (They just ban all petrol cars with turbochargers, regardless of performance).

I'm not sure about the Polo's (I have a Golf) but it would seem that 66kW would get a bit annoying after a while for a P plater with a brand new car. It would be best to start a new thread here and ask: Polo (6R, 2010+)

In the meantime do a few more searches and compare 0-100kph times with the 77TSI and the next TDI model above the 66.

There are tuning companies who can improve VW performance via the ECU software but I'm not sure if they've bothered to create and test a new program on the slowest model. There's a tuning section on these forums if you want to search/ask there.

    Hope that helps.
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

I lost my license for 12months for speeding my exemption form will be rejected, but i can say its a work vehicle and say i work for my mums company which i have a fuel card for which can be used as my evidence. the only problem is if im driving at night and i get pulled up i have to be coming to or from work.

ive looked at the golf R32 but im not to keen on the shape
