vw watercooled worries

so im tryin to help my father fix his wagon its an 87 vw fox wagon and weve taken the injection off and it now has a small 2 barrel webber i think its a dgv well its been runnin great for a long time now and the other day the battery died and we werent charging anymore . so we put new brushes in the alternator and vroom back to normal lights worked great and drove great for like two days then it alll the sudden stoped runnin well were still charging lights work great still just really poor runnin and dies if u try to let it idle any and all help would be greatly appreciated thx btw my name is elliot thx alll

Check your timing, could be the problem with idle, something about the battery and alternator could be a problem with a dead cell in the battery. apart from that more detail is needed.

Also change the fuel filter, test to see if the fuel pump is delivering the correct amount of fuel, check the choke is coming off on the carby, remove carb and clean (not hard).

the battery is good it takes a good charge and puts good power out.i took the fuel line off the carb, its pumpin good .the carb is good its a webber i rebuilt . the alternator is good its got new brushes n regulator. i set the timing at the crank and at the camshaft correctly. and thanks to all who reply

im gonna put points in it and get rid of the electronic ignition maybe that will fix it.
