Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hello Hello

    Hello All,

Just got on here. Hoping to purchase a Scirocco R in the new FY and wanted to know the ins and outs. Looking forward to getting to know the community.

    Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum!
If you want to own one this calendar year I would advise you to learn quick, test drive it & make your decision. Stock is very limited & it's not a car you generally speaking pick up that easy due to production limitation.
    All the best!

Thanks for the welcome and advice Christian.

I have already test driven it and was thoroughly impressed. Cannot believe a FWD car can handle so well. Only fault I could find is the slightly numb steering and poor rear vision...

I had made a decision to get it but have to wait for the new FY.

I am actually hoping to get two for the company, so hoping we get lucky.

        Welcome Alik!

If you've decided on a 'Roc, then if I were you I'd order now. It's unlikely you'll get local stock (there's not a lot about), and factory orders take anywhere from 6-12 months to arrive. Christian has mentioned elsewhere that it's unlikely that the factory will take more orders for builds in 2012, so you might be waiting till mid 2013 unless you score a car already built and on its way (in which case you may not take delivery until next FY anyway, or otherwise could ask the dealer to hold it for you).

          Thanks for the welcome AdamD.

In light of your post, I think I will give the dealer a ring on Tuesday and see what the deal is. I'm sure they'll make an effort to find us something.

I really need to stop chasing rare cars!

There are still "a few" in importer transport status (on the ship to Australia). If you wanted two the same colour I'd start working on it. If the dealership is keen to build a rapport with you as the customer, they will hold them over for you for a few weeks.
Try country dealerships..we picked up two Rocs from country dealerships as they don't sell there (swaps for Amaroks).

Why on gods green earth would you swap a Scirocco R for an Amarok ??
The Amarok is a nice vehicle and all but I would have thought that if you were ordering a sports car then your mindset would not be on an SUV. They are at opposing ends of the market to my way of thinking.
Now that I have my Bora, my wife is talking about trading her car in, the Roc looks like it might be worth a shot at steering her towards

Best of luck man. My only concern is being they are so limited in stock and not taking orders, you won't be getting much of a deal on them.

Christian's talking about a swap from a dealer perspective. If a country dealer has a Scirocco on the floor but sells Amaroks by the truckload to local customers, he'll likely trade his Scirocco that has limited appeal to rural customers, for an Amarok held by a metropolitan dealer that can't find a home.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Much appreciated.

On the iPhone so can't do individual responses. However will try to address all.

The dealer gave me an acceptable price on one during my initial test drive so as long as they give me a fair deal on two, I'm in. I don't expect heaps off - I believe in the dealer making a bit of fat when the going is good.

I do have concerns about getting two the same colour etc... But am flexible on options so we'll see. Ideally I want the Dynoaudio and Nav on both.

As for rear view, this is my practical car! So need to look back once in a while!

And Christian, I definitely here you on the Amoraks at country dealers. I think the guys here are having a field day with them.

I suspect it'd be the same in Perth?

                        Nice to hear!

BTW: Amaroks selling pretty good - out of most 2011 stock in W.A. now. We can't wait for the auto version as a lot of city slickers prefer auto to manual in stop&start traffic.

                          It's only fair!

Glad to hear it's doing quite well over there. I was actually surprised when VW announced it but seems to be quite popular everywhere now.

I really didn't expect them to sell many here as this is Toyota-town! But some of the more discerning gents have got on board.

Didn't realize the auto was not available yet - that'll surely make a huge difference.

Christian, how have your Scirocco sales been?

I have sold 4 out of the 8 allocated to the dealership
3 left to sell + DEMO

Everyone loves the shape when they come into the show room. But it doesn't suit everyone...a lot of customers still have kids and it's not the most practical car having to use the rear seats.(same reason I have sold my BMW325CI...)

That is pretty good going! 3 left? Are they built or production allocations? Might be giving you a ring if the local guys can't get me the cars, we'll see.

Definitely a stunning shape and really nice proportions. I hear you on the not for everyone tag- funnily enough this is going to be my practical daily car!

                              325Ci sounds nice - E46?
