I've been admiring the Golf R ever since it was announced, but it has been a bit out of my reach until recently. So I'm just starting to do my research to try and be better informed about all the aspects of buying, owning and even modding a Golf R. At this stage I'm most probably going to wait and see what the MY13 model (along with VW's new MQB platform) brings, but that's not easy as even after some light reading on here, I'm fairly keen to go out and buy a Golf R right now.

Welcome to the forums mate.
There are some helpful dealers (Gold Coast VW and Highway VW).
There is also quite a wide range available now so you have the R, sicrocco (lack of AWD)
Any particular reason you are leaning towards the R over the other models?
Either way, hope we can get you into some VAG and out to some of our events.

I wouldn't expect there will be large changes for MY13 - VW tends to make only small, incremental improvements between major model changes. As for the MQB platform, that's only coming with the Mk7 which, based on past schedules, isn't likely to arrive in Australia before mid-late 2014 at the earliest, and possibly 2015 (in R guise).2008 MkV Volkswagen Golf R32 DSG
