  • QLD Brisbane: VG Scirocco R

    Hello Hello!

My name is Melissa, I picked up my fully optioned DSG VG Scirocco on Friday. I absolutely love it - what a thrill to drive!

I'm in Brisbane and haven't seen too many others yet. Except a CW in the CBD last week and a VG with roof racks heading south bound on the gateway last Friday.

I will be getting it fully re-tinted this week and matte black wheels to follow. I didn't put much thought into the plates at the dealership but now seeing the overhang on the rear, I am thinking about getting some euro plates to fill the space.

My first big question is running it in! Any recommendations beyond those listed in the manual?

    Cheers,
    Melissa

    Welcome fellow female Scirocco driver

I followed the manual, not on purpose, more of the fact I was driving it down from Sydney to Melbourne, via Canberra on the weekend I picked it up. The oil got topped up (~200mL added) on the way, but not a drop has been used since, and I've done 3000kms already.
MY12 Scirocco R - slightly not stock

      Welcome to the forum.

There's plenty of opinion on running in. So be prepared for that. As long as the water is up to temp don' be frightened to wind it up a bit. Driving in the hills with the engine under load is far better than putting the cruise control on at 100 and driving to Cairns. Keep an eye on the oil level, although it'll bitch about not having enough, far better to have a litre close by. If it's going to use any, it will be in the early days.

        Welcome to the forum Melissa.
As Gavin said, be ready for plenty of opinions on how to run in a new engine, here is my simplified "how to" http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...tml#post560790

Thank you She_dub, Gavin, and Transporter for the welcome and the tips!

My first weekend with the car and I have already clocked up 400kms - crazy how quickly it goes!

My partner has had a Golf R on order now for approx 5 months (its build date is scheduled for next week though) and the guy who he bought his car from suggested that all Golfs are to be thrashed pretty hard in the early days as this helps to properly coat the engine etc. The salesman's conclusion was based on the fact that he has never had any problems with oil in his GTI. Interesting! Very true that there are lots of opinions out there!

Transporter - my oil temp hasn't gone beyond 91 degrees so far and I have only pushed the engine when its warm and only for brief periods. Thank you for recommending the thread - I will keep exploring.

          Cheers!
