Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • ACT 2003 Bora V6 4Motion

I moved to Aussie-land about three years ago, and left my 5.7litre Hemi Dodge Ram back in Houston, Texas. I didn't think I'd have a ride that I wanted to keep for the rest of my life so soon. Along came my 2003 VW Bora 4Motion, and I am very happy with it. Sure it's a car that costs a bit more to keep up, but to be honest, I typically opt to spend more for quality parts than the OEM replacement that the dealership or garage wants to put in.

I haven't done much to it other than keep it clean and sort out all the niggly bits, but that should change pretty soon. First things first, I've got Brembo slotted rotors on the way over along with some Akebono ceramic pads. I don't hit the track, so I just want something reliable, long lasting, dustless and strong in the stop.

I've got the Konig 17" wheels on there that look like they were separated from the car at birth. Don't know what's next, but the upgrades will most likely be few and far between since I want to do a lot of research and do as much of the work myself that's possible without spending thousands on required tools.

I tend to take every chance I can to step on the gas and blow past someone who thinks VW's are puntsy little eco cars. The best is when some hoon in a '95 Holden SS wants to have a go. Have only lost once to a modded turbo Range Rover, but it doesn't worry me, because the dude only had to but stuff, get it installed and put his foot on the floor.

Spending money and mashing your foot doesn't mean you can drive, it just means you have to spend more money to beat me or anyone else who can really drive. I love my car, and you just can't beat running through 6 gears with FWD. Look out roundabouts.

I'm also a motorcycle enthusiast. It's been a couple years, but I'm nearly done getting things in order to ship over my 2004 Arlen Ness Signature Series Victory Vegas. It's carrying a 92ci 1507cc V-twin that's scary. See you kids on the road.

    - You want respect? Have a nice car AND know how to drive it. I like sh*t-hot cars with an auto gearbox, but don't tell me you can drive, and that you beat so and so when all you can do is put your foot down. Grow a stick and some balls and then we can talk.

    OK. First things first:

    1. You own a Bora 4mo. Respect. How many k's on it, where'd you pick it up from ? And for the love of all things good on this earth, post some pics ASAP

    2. You're from TX. I was in DC over Xmas, and *nearly* got talked into flying down to Austin for the weekend. Seriously regretting it...

    3. What roads are you usually on around berra ? We need to catch up, check those konig's out.

      Hey Governor,

Thanks for the respect for the car. It's up to about 120,000k's right now. I got it from Gerhard's in Fyshwick for a good price. Being under warranty, I got a heap of stuff fixed on it after I bought it off them. Probably about $2,500 worth of work done. I'd love to post some pics but my attachment thingy hasn't been enabled yet. Took the work camera out to the car park today and took some decent ones actually.

You missed out not hitting Austin. It's definitely a cultural epicenter with lots of good music going on. Also, it's the capital of texas and home to the University of Texas Longhorns...this means lots of sorostitutes (derogatory name for sorority girls). It's definitely one of the places I'd recommend visiting in the US.

I live on the southside, so my drive to work every morning is up drakeford/Tugg pkwy, and over on William Hovell to Holt up the backside of Belconnen. What part of town are you usually around?

buddy i live in o'connor and just hang around civic/braddon area for school and work... but i like taking 'Duchess' for a spin now and then: great roads would be--William Hovell, Tg'nong pkway, clunies ross (around the lake), the run to Cotter Dam (or what's left of it), Tharwa Drive and parts of the Monaro.
