    I think the only answer to your question is "go drive one" - pretty different cars.

    I'd think you'd find a lot more usable space in the passat but ofcourse not as much headroom. I dont think it would be "too slow" unless you are expecting a very fast car.... it would be a lot cheaper to put fuel in ofcourse, but perhaps as expensive to service.

      You would be surprised at just how spritely the little 4 cyl engines are from VW.
      The best part is they are readily tuneable to get more torque/power and even fuel economy.
