QLD Long time VW owner

Hi there

I've owned numerous air cooled and water cooled VWs in the UK and having settled in Australia in 2005, now feel the urge to reacquaint myself with the joys of owning a VW.

Having looked through ebay and carsales.com.au for a Mark II Golf GTI, I have been disappointed at the lack of cars available. I am hoping this forum can point me in the right direction and give me much needed advice.

First step is to forget everything about UK prices, have a rummage through the for sale thread near the bottom of the forum. There's a tempting VR6 converted Mk2 for starters, and WTB (wanted to buy) threads can be made. We only got the 8v GTI Aus new so valvers are few and far, and other models are imports (some South African some German), the only real upside compared to our tea sipping friends to the North is rarity, makes them just a bit more special, and not salting the roads has made them just a bit less...a lot less rusty.
