Hi. I drive a T5 TDI 4 motion transporter. I have just done over 100,000 klms and it looks like the water pump has **** itself. I'm constantly filling the reservoir up, in the last two weeks have put around 8 liters or more in to top it up, every time the warning light comes on. Can't see where it's going, no green liquid on the garage floor. Just dropped it in to Browns Auto Barn this morning and they are thinking it's the water pump. I asked if it could be the oil cooler as the temp has not risen above 90 at all but they are fairly sure it's the water pump. At least it's not a cooked head, I hope. Cheers, sambo

The coolant is probably red not green. VW use G12 plus not glycol coolant. You cannot mix the two !
Most temp gauges are balanced so they show 90 when the real temp is anything from 85-110.
You might just have a small leak, that pisses out when under pressure. It would evaporate very quickly when hot.
When coolant dries it leaves a pinkish white dust, look for that on coolant hoses near junctions and you might find your leak.

My mechanic has been using green glycol since the first service. Oh oh !! Red against green, !! Still maybe ok ??

The mechanic phd on Friday and was busy taking the water pump out as reckons it's the problem. Hope it is as it sounds like I"ll need a small bank loan to pay for the bloody thing. Just hope it's not a leak on a hose.!! Will be fairly pissed off if it is. And here I am looking at buying a new T5 !! Sucker for punishment !!Comment
