Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • On verge of buying a new Golf 6 TSI

Dear all, I am about to purchase a new Golf 6 TSI from Barloworld.

I look forward to participating in this forum.

BTW - should I get the GPS satnav option or use a Garmin style add-on?

Also, will a factory installed version attract thieves - or are those days gone?

    best,
    Cuthbert

re. the GPS there are pros and cons of both. External unit is cheaper and the maps will be up to date but its another 'thing' to have in the car and isnt integrated. Inbuilt is much more expensive and maps older but obviously integrated nicely.

Personally, the GPS wasn't worth the factory charge and if I ever change my mind they're available on eBay for ~1k and I can install & code myself.

Welcome to the forums. Which TSI model are you getting?

I got my RNS510 off eBay too, very easy to install. I've got Google Maps on my phone for the rare occasion the RNS isn't suitable, but I often just like having the map screen displayed with no route programmed in, so being one button-press away with no suction cap marks on the windscreen is a + for me. I also wanted the 30GB HDD to load my music onto - I haven't played a CD in months.
