I first saw the Scirocco last year in Singapore, it was like a plague, they were everywhere, and I had never seen such a hot VW ever. Since I already have a strong interest in cars I kept track with interest of the news of its arrival in Australia and when I read that pre-release cars were available (for viewing only I thought) I just had to go and have an actual look. I spoke with a sales guy here in Canberra and he offered a test drive (one of my hobbies) - how could I refuse an offer like that? I have only ever driven a Golf a couple of years ago and never owned a VW so I was not really sure what to expect.
I have to say I was quite blown away with everything about the Scirocco R, the handling, the grunt, the DSG, the quality, the ride and especially the looks. This was Friday last week and at that point I was this close ( ) to buying a BMW 118i with 8 speed auto and other options and had not realised the Scirocco had been released.
Well, after the test drive I trolled the internet for more information and became more and more hooked on this car. That was also when I stumbled upon this website. So now full of both information and enthusiasm I asked my lease guy to locate one in Viper Green with DSG (which he has) and I should have it sometime within the next few weeks (date to be confirmed). After 4 fantastic years my beloved MY08 WRX is now being put out to pasture so I can embrace the future with a bit more technology and luxury. I can't remember being this excited about a car before. Whilst the MY08 WRX does not have much in the way of luxury or technology (bluetooth, DSG, reversing sensors, etc) or fantastic looks, etc it is still an awesome car to drive, particularly with the AWD in the wet and the power.
So I look forward to my first drive in MY new Scirocco R, including the first drive in the wet to see how it goes. And this is despite my better half thinking the combination of hot car and overweight middle-aged balding man will look ridiculous
That is until she sees it and has a ride in it LOL.
