Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

A Toyota Corolla which I hated with a passion was her previous car, it was reliable though. I have a few cars at the moment, Isuzu D-Max and a SS Commodore which never sees the light of day anymore.

So my price range was between 30-40K. It needed to be safe, somewhat economical but be a little interesting.

I test drove the Holden Cruze SRI-V, Ford Mondeo, A new Jetta HighLine 118 with the new underpinnings.

The Cruze was well appointed, nice interior but it was a little doughy with the 1.4T engine. It was really a little un fair to compare against the other cars as really it is more top of the class for the cheaper 20-30K cars.

The Mondeo was a nice car but the girlfriend wasn't all that fussed on how it drove.

She drove the Jetta and her words not mine, "it just feels like your part of the car". So we settled on a 118 after a bit of a discussion about it and decided to head back to make the purchase. As fate always gets in the way, I noticed the 1K on Ebay and gave the guy a ring. It was in pretty good nick, K's are ok, all the services are there and we paid 22K for it.. We will see how it goes from here.

Very nice upgrade from a Corolla, although ,as we ALL know,Corollas are brilliant,as far as reliability and build quality are concerned.

However,I think you guys chose the best car on your list...
