Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC cant decide what to get

    Hi,

First of all i would like to say, what a great forum this is,,, heaps of info.

At the moment I am driving a 1995 Hyundai Excel and am looking for something the same size, but with a bit more go!

I have a budget of $30K and am looking at -

Current model 6R polo GTI - Heard that this is a very safe buy, performance and fuel economy wise.... although I am worried about the reliability of the DSG gearbox, and do not want to be in and out of the VW dealer all the time..

also, is there any major difference with this from the Skoda Fabia RS - is it worth the extra money for a VW badge???

Renault Sport Clio 182 Cup - heard nothing but good things about these. Seems to be alot of bang for your $$... I can pick one up for around 15k... heard these are absolute weapons on a track, and the NA 2.0L is an absolute gem.

Holden Barina Spark - A bit of a dark horse... have heard the engine responds really well to modifications (can up from stock 59kw to around 120kw). 120kw + light car and some aftermarket suspension could = major fun

    Look forward too your thoughts

You could get yourself an '08 GTI Pirelli which has an S3 engine; with the right modifications and a decent set of rubber these things absolutely fly.
