  • WA New to the GTI owner club!

    Well, relatively new anyway..

I purchased a new Golf GTI late last year - it was a big step up from the old school Mitsubishi Magna! I had wanted a Golf for about five years and having finished Uni and secured a decent enough job it has been my first major purchase.

I am a country bloke originally so most of my friends into cars have V8's, Utes etc. though even they have been impressed by the little 2.0 litre! I am a Mechanical Engineer by day so I have always had a bit of an interest in well made cars that I consider to be the complete package.

I am looking to learn a lot more about my car and from what I have seen there is plenty of knowledge around these boards. Also interested in getting it out on a couple of track days to test out my driving skills and see what the car can do.

    welcome aboard Holla.

Post some pics of the beast.

    Any plans for some tweaking?

Yeah I do have plans to tweak further down the track but first I want to get to know the car more intimately on a track to really understand where upgrades could do the best. I have been recommended ABT tuning from a German mate but I am sure there are plenty around here who can point me in the right direction either way. I know most people probably are the same but I don't want to eff up my new car warranty with any upgrades at this stage..

Here is a photo I took the other day (after a bit of a dodgy wash):

APR have good local support, and I believe you can get a free 6 hour trial ECU reflash.

I doubt very much whether something like that would affect your warranty

Loads of good info on GTI tunes here: Tuning and Performance (inc ECU upgrades)

There are many products out there, and most get a very good rap from customers. Just make sure you do your research to make sure you get a tune (and select mods) that suits your preferences with respect to performance/power delivery/reliability/price/image/.

There's also plenty of discussion in the same forum on the whole tune vs warranty question.
