Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Newbie (possibly) shifting from XR6 TURBO(s)

    Hi guys,

Looking at downsizing from Ford's XR6 TURBO cars to a GTI as I don't need a family sized vehicle anymore. Gotta register/post to ask a question, sooooo this it.

Apart from the usual comment to test drive one, (fwd does drive differently to a rwd, especially a high powered one) I would be tempted to suggest that a R might be better than a standard GTI, in terms of performance being comparable to the XR6 turbo..

Of course both the GTI and R can be modified to make up for any power deficiency .

Thanks. Don't want to get into a full discussion here, but having had cars that can get to 100km/h in <= 6 secs for a while, I'm over the outright performance. 6.9sec 0-100km/h is adequate, it's now about the handling (GTI will run rings around an XR6 in this area). Also budget limit of 45k. Now to post my first question elsewhere.....
