Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Newbie Question on EGR valve, Inlet Manifold Flap & 'Emission Workshop' warning light

I just road tested a used GOLF V 2.0 TDi and on the dash the emissions warning light is on - the car feels OK , but then I haven't really driven that many diesels and certainly not one with DSG - this one has under 90k on the clock and has been kept in pretty good condition.

I'm thinking the emissions warning light is most probably a gunked up EGR valve - I checked the manuals and it's been serviced regularly by Barlow world and only done 12k in the last 3 years - so it looks like a good deal aside from the emission light showing on - it could be faulty of course, but I'm more inclined to think the EGR is actually the problem.

I was wondering if anyone has a ballpark figure on what the cost of replacing the EGR is?... or if it makes better sense to fit an EGR delete kit... or is it steer clear of territory and look at another Golf?

Does anyone have an idea of the cost of either of these - I would need to get an indy VW repairer to do the work as I don't have a home workshop as I live in a city apartment.

    Cheers

    James
