  • NSW New R Owner to be

    Hi all,

I like long strolls along the beach, strawberry daiquiris, and Golf Rs in Rising Blue.

Got my R on it's way (just left Fremantle yesterday, bound for Port Kembla in the next few days).

I'm coming from a BMW 135i, and am looking forward to getting back into a hot hatch.

Interesting that you are "downgrading" to the R.

Any reason why you gave up the Twin Turbo 6 + RWD for a AWD Turbo 4?

My neighbour drives a 135i, and he and I both agree that my Golf is a big step up from the BMW in terms of interior quality and overall versatility.

The BMW is a great drive though - it'd be hard to give that straight 6 up!

Deep down, I bet he can't get away from the blue and white propeller badge - he will look more impressive pulling up to the Star City Casino carpark compared to a VW...... I look at those ppl who think they are so good in Beemas/Mercs/Audis thinking that they must believe they have 'made it' in life but in actual fact, it is just a 3 series/c class/a4 which is not that hard to afford.........

The reasons why I'm going to the R:

              - My 135i is 3.5 years old, and I don't like hanging on to cars too long.

              - BMW didn't have anything to offer me to move to. It would cost me $60k to move to the 1 Series M - a car that was not different enough to justify the cost.

              - The price of my cars has been going up and up and up over the years. I'm starting to get concerned that I might end up in something really expensive if I keep going up in price the way that I am.

              - I drove a Golf R at a VW Driving Experience day and loved it.

For the record, I prefer the interior of the BMW, but not by that much. The quality seems higher, especially the switchgear.

The 135i has the most flexible engine that I have ever experienced. Unbelievable torque at any revs in any gear. Lovely car, and lots of fun to drive (especially in the wet!).
