Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hi! New Sydney Golfer, fixing what I just bought...

    Hi All!,

As the title says: Hi! New Sydney Golfer, fixing what I just bought...

2000 VW Golf MK4, 'Blue Anthracite' (Dark Grey).
In the central to east part of Sydney, looking for parts/wrecking.

Currently trying to fix: bought a new remote from VW Barloworld, but it won't match/connect/sync to my car... Anyone know if it should sync to 'all mk4 golfs?

Happy to be a member, get & give all the help I can!

    Great colour mate!

I had the exact same 14s on mine, I only went up to 16 inch GTI rims

For the remote to work you need to have it recognised by your car and its immobiliser:

    VWVortex.com - New Key Programming

VWVortex.com - DIY guide to switchblade key remote replacement

search around here and on vortex if this isnt what you need

      Thanks!
Yeah, I've been doing a shed-load of research on the remotes & programming them, accross all the forums, but can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for (past the basics).

Basically I've tried many variations of the '2 keys' method to program the remotes, but with no success. So the next step is programming it with a Vag-Com. I dropped in to VW Village, but he seems to feel that it might have a comfort module that doesn't accept remotes/keyless entry, seeing as it came with the votex add-on keyless entry option (no remotes & disconnected now). He said he can try if I drop it off one day, but he'll charge no matter what the outcome is, and is basically hinting me to not try it.

I'm in contact with a guy with a vag-com in Sydney, and we might have a go with that with the correct instructions, which I've come across from Ross-Tech & the likes, just might research a bit more tonight before I take up his time too.

Some research I've come accross sugests that any MK4 golf can have OEM flip key remotes programmed to them, regardless of wether or not they came with remotes in the first place, ie: even if they only came with 2 'standard' keys.

PS: I was reading through your build the other day, awesome, inspirational stuff!!
