Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD 2007 VW Jetta

Hello all, just wanted to say that i'm finally the proud owner of a 2007 VW jetta FSI Turbo. 1 owner, fully optioned bar the HID's and is definately a bargain car for the price some of these are going for now. I've owned some imports that have run 11's over the years but finally grown up and wanted a car with luxury and still something with some poke. Dead standard it is a surprising little motor and mounted to the DSG it is a dream. Drove it back from melbourne, via Woolongong, to northside Brisbane and averaged 95km/h and used 6.9l/100km with the aircon on all the way.

Anyway enough of saying how good it is, as you all know how good they are already Here are some pics a friend of mine took last night at Pinkenba, enjoy!

              Update:

Just came back from a Test and Tune at Willowbank and ran a best of 14.90 @ 93.8mph totally stock. Had 5 runs with the following results:
              15.332 @ 92.88, 2.636 60ft (no launch control and in standard "D" mode)
              15.021 @ 93.30, 2.364 60ft (launch control at 2200ish rpm and in "S" mode)
15.039 @ 93.23, 2.326 60ft (launch control at 2200ish rpm and in manual shift mode) accidentally went from first into 3rd
14.964 @ 93.69, 2.338 60ft (launch control at 3000 rpm and in manual shift mode) changed gears at 6200rpm
14.906 @ 93.80, 2.349 60ft (launch control at 3000 rpm and in manual shift mode) changed gears at 5800rpm

Looks like shifting earlier is better, so next time around i'll play with shift points more and find the sweet spot. Also had 1/3 of a tank of fuel, so could try running less. There should be a 14.8 in it without too much trouble

The track was in top condition and even leaving at 3000rpm with launch control there was no wheel spin. Was a very hot night though so it was robbing a bit of power. At least i now have a starting point and can see what improvements the mods make when i start them. First in line is a APR tune and a Carbonio intake. Second stage for me would be a dump pipe as i want to keep it as quiet as possible.

Sound like a good mod path.

The Downpipe shouldn't affect the audio levels at all since the car comes with essentially 2 mufflers.

Looks great and love the plates (USHITI).

I scored a 14.2 down Willowbank without using LC mainly because there was too much wheelspin. I had the stage 1 APR and stock tires. We should defs do a photoshoot there sometime (I tore through there with the Rok the other day ).

Did you mean the USH171 plates or 70URA? I have a 12sec Toyota Chaser as well, which is now my weekend car, which u might have seen me in. Or if it was the Jetta you saw me in, i'd say there is a good chance of that as well as i haven't stopped driving since i got it

Hopefully there is a Brisbane meet soon or if anyone wants to meet up at Harry's Diner on Thursday nights, i'm there often.

I've added a few small mods like Carbonio intake and have a DP, intercooler on order which will be installed over xmas and early next year tune. Hopefully it'll get me in the 13's and then that'll be it for the jetta. Concentrate back on the chaser again
