Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I look forward to receiving my first VW - a MK6 1.4 TSI Jetta and learning more about VW on these forums.

I drive a Nissan cefiro (a33) which isn't mine so the Jetta will be my first vehicle to truly own.

Japanese cars rule the roost here so I initially looked at lancers, corollas (sad to say) and civics but due to the strength of the yen their prices weren't competitive with European cars with respect to technology, safety (most came with only 2 airbags in the fully loaded model) and performance (no turbo and only small displacements available).

I then started looking at used Audi A4, BMW 3 series cars, and even a used imported Subaru legacy gt. audis, BMW and Benz are three brands that are marked up very high here and I began looking at VW expecting a high price just like the other euros here. I was shocked when I came across the Jetta. Especially considering the redesigned Mk6 was coming as I wasn't liking the styling of the mk5 much. Further shocked about the 1.4 tsi engine and its torque curve which gives the car more pep than a 1.4 litre engine should have. Technically this thing can hang with cars with na 2.5 litre depending on their weight AND gets great fuel economy.

One test drive later I was set!
