Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC Help On New Switch Blade Key

Hi Guys, im Neil,1st post, im a proud owner of a recently purchased 07 Jetta TDI- 1st volksy ive brought & im bloody impressed, only got the 1 key & was looking to buy a 2nd, but dealer wanted over $300 "OUCHHHHH" so just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to avoid the exp option, was looking at buying one on ebay & realize you have to find the right locksmith & have the transponder fitted as well, but surely this must be better than forking out over 300 sheets- any help here would be much appreciated
    cheers VeeDubb

been away on buis so hadnt had chance to reply- i looked at all the pro,s & con,s on previous topics covering this as well as other websites- even spoke to a vw specialist in the U.S who can cut keys over there at resonable cost - but transponders work on a different freq ( H & P ) where we have the (G) frequency - so i just bit the bullet & went to VW & my new key is on its way from singapore- i actually found it $160 cheaper by shopping around the diff vw dealers in melb, works out the cheapest was closest to me- looks like many ppl have had some dramas buying keys from other sources & trying to get em to suit there car
