Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Is there life after a CUPRA?

I'm a Newbie and a SEAT fan living in Sydney (started with an Ibiza GTI in 1996 and moved to a Cupra in 1999). Stylish cars which are interesting to drive. I tried the latest one last year in UK but sadly there is no indication they'll be back in Aus any time soon.

My wife has had a Golf since 2004 and, as the Cupra is not getting much use nowadays, I've reluctantly had to accept we should downgrade (!) to a one car family. As we're both happy with VW we are considering a Golf 118TSI (with manual transmission), but are a bit put off by rumours in the motoring press that the super/turbo charged engine will be abandoned for the Mk VII Golf. We have questioned a couple of VW Service Managers who say the engines generally have no problems, but we're not totally convinced.

Can anyone advise on this issue, or known problems with the 118TSI, please?
