  • VIC New Polo Owner

    Hey all

Two weeks ago after many months of waiting I finally received my new flash red 66 TDI Comfortline Polo with most of the options including the RNS510.

I had to press the issue to get the dealer to connect the RNS510 to the Bluetooth system microphone to enable the voice controls, but eventually they did it.

A couple of days ago I updated to the version 3810 firmware enjoying
    - more than one announcement language / gender / accent option
(previously it was a female voice with a British English accent only)
    - speed limit display
    - option to exclude certain roads
    - version information display

but I'm still trying to get more out of it.

It looks like I'm going to have to find someone with a VCDS cable to help me.

Anyone in / near Brunswick, Melbourne with one?

    Cheers

hey paul welcome to the forums!

how's your fuel economy going? gotta love the way the tdi's run on a sniff of a rag.

regarding vcds, you'd be well advised to go straight to the VCDS technical forum on here, as im sure someone in melbourne, should you ask for a lend of their vcds, will be able to help you soon.

you need to come to a get together so we can check your specc'd up 6r tdi!

      Hi Scott

      The fuel economy is amazing -- averaging about 4.6 l / 100k

Thanks - I'll check out the tech forums.

      When are there get-togethers?

get togethers USED to be varied and all over melb. Tim from dub addiction has been very proactive in getting peeps to come together from all over, instead of lots of little different "factions".

as such, there are now get togethers every friday night at tim's factory - no real set times, the BBQ gets fired up and peeps can stay for 5 mins or 5 hours.

come along this friday! the meets are a really great way to meet the vic crew, and the vic scene is very very active.

address is 820 princess highway springvale.

Hi Scott -- and anyone else who wishes to comment -- I've come across some problems.

On Monday evening my new Polo broke down in the city.

On Sunday my fianceé noticed the alternator warning light was on so we planned to get that investigated as soon as possible.

On Monday I had an appointment to attend so took the car but only made it part way. The navigator system flashed on and off then stayed off, the power steering warning light came on then I lost power steering, then the car slowed to walking pace and I had to pull over. VW Assist arranged RACV to come out. The RACV guy tested the battery and reported only 10v. He tried to charge it but it wouldn't hold. He connected a device to the socked under the dash but found that although it was chewing up an extremely high amount of power, the system was reporting no error codes at all. He tried connecting a portable battery so that we could drive to the nearest dealer, but we could only get about 100m with that -- it was drawing that much power.

It appears as though there has been a complete failure of the alternator.

What I would like to know is -- have any of the VCDS changes that I have made possibly have caused this?

I have applied a small number of tweaks using a VCDS cable
-- horn and indicators on lock/unlock
-- coming home and leaving home lights (not that this actually did anything that I could notice)
          -- auto-lock at 15kph
-- turn on hazards if ABS kicks in

has anyone ever heard of any of these changes presenting a risk -- especially such a major power problem like this?
