Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC Newbie but oldie

Hi Bitza here, the system is considering me as a newbie but in fact I was a member for over 5 years i think, not very active in recent couple of years.

Anyhow, I suppose I would be considered an old fart, having owned VW Watercooled cars since 1979. First car in 1976 was a VW 65 Beetle with a worked motor around 90 hp and was pretty hot for its day. Then I saw the light and started driving a "hot water bottle" as the others in VW Auto Club referred to then then in Vic with a 1975 Audi Fox, it was modified a little with Alloys sawy bars and a bit of Engine tuning. That was replaced a few years later by a 1979 Passat 2 door Hatchback, with a worked 1600 motor and handling package I put together by trial and error. I now had a company car, but we the new wife at the time had a rough Audi Fox, and I had a 1300 2 door Passat club car. The Club car did the winton 6 hour, and numerous club sprint events. These cars were This was followed bya pair of 2 door Golfs one street version that looked like a GTI but was yellow and the motor was again worked 1600, cam big carby ported head big exhaust etc, the other was built as full tilt (what I could afford really) race car 180hp 1600 Formula 2 based engine (which I still have if anyones intrested but now its 1760cc in size), close ratio box, BIG Stabliser bars, GTI brakes etc. It raced in stae level racing from about 1988 through to 93/94. The the cost of family life slowed me down, so it was stripped and custom built for the next owner and sold to order. Since then I have run a 1976 2 Door Golf with my old race motor in it, now is has a slightly worked 1600 around 100hp, GTI brakes, stabliser bars Konis lowerd big wheels etc the car was softened so my son could drive in motorkanas etc, not too often mind. Still have this car but is now for sale. I aslo have a Mark 1 Scirocco unfinished project car taht I am also selling as I just don't have the time to finish it. Have all the parts but not the time. (Frustration!!!!!). I also have a mark 2 Scirocco is complete original on CH reg and gets drive occasional and taken to the Day of the VW each year or other Vicbased shows (when I have the time). My last car was a a last of Seat GTI Cupra (bright yellow one) that is now driven by my son, he has started modifing within the limits of being a P plater. I now drive a 2003 Oettinger V5 Bora as my daily driver (no more company cars). My Daughter drives a stock (and rough Mark 3 2 litre Auto). So you can see that I am definitly posessed by the various winds, and i have inflicted my passion for "hot water bottles" to those around me. Would love a Scirocco R but I always wait till they devalue a bit before buying. I can't the depreciation on a new car!!!!!!!. Anyway I'll try to be a bit more active and I'll so those of you that know at the various Watercooled shows /meeting around Melbourne. Cheers

Hi James, Happy to help out. Depending on the time available. As you can see I don't go on line too much based on my response time. Since returning to post, I have already recieved E mails from guys that know me regarding this very point, or I have engineered their cars in the past. Also I am not that sure about what the requirements may be unique to other states. ie NSW is a law under itself, they used a total different guidelines. Hence i have to be a bit careful. Any way what are you suggesting? I start a Thread and let it run or what? Has dad told you that I am selling my mark 1 swallow tail Golf thats on Ch Reg and my Mark 1 Scirocco unfinished project?
