Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • DSG or Manual

    Hi All,

I'm looking to purchase a 90tsi VW. I was initially only looking for manual however have recently worried about resale value in few years time. My thoughts are that since 90tsi is more likely a non sports car then most ppl will not want manual and will mean I will have to discount heavily to sell. in summary, could you please let me know your thoughts on whether Manual will be harder to sell in few years time?

    Thanks

P.s trying to make most of current specials.

      Hey,

Thanks for the reply mate. How do u find the 90tsi? I'm currently driving a mazda 6 MPS 4wd turbo. I know this has lots less power however do you still feel it has grunt? Is overtaking a challenge or an easy manouvre? Is it fun to drive? There isn't much on here about this car. Most is about GTI and the R.

      Thanks in advanced

Not sure it is valid comparing a 6 MOS to a 90TSI, really there is no comparison between the two cars.

In regards the manual Vs DSG question, that is simple do you want to drive a manual or an auto? Resale is irrelevant, there will be buyers for each, a manual buyer won't be interested in a DSG and vice versa...........just buy what suits you and don't worry about the rest of the world.

I am pretty much just asking if the 90tsi is zippy and responsive. Is it a car where i need to downgear to overtake. i prefer manual but will be buying DSG. In my situation its important to consider the resot of the world as in 3 years someone from teh world will be buying my car and i want to ensure that i dont lose more than i should.

Any responses on teh 90tsi performance?

          thanks guys

I own a 90tsi manual. To answer your question, i guess it depends on the gear you're in and speed... but at 100km/h in 6th, there is plenty of torque to keep it in 6th (unless you're in a big hurry and the gap is small). In terms of general driving, the 90tsi's torque is really sweet in day-to-day driving, requiring less revs and gear changes, to say, my wife's 2009 Mazda3 (2.0l) which requires higher revs and more changes. If you're getting the DSG, it'll do all the work for you, so why worry!

Resale wise, I couldn't really say... but the dealer did say that most Golf buyers were getting the DSG and finding a manual to test drive was more difficult.

I'd suggest you take a look in the many threads in the Mk6 forum for an answer; the Manual vs DSG, resale, and performance questions have all been covered in detail there.
