Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hi Guys,

I'm an old fart, not telling you how old, but still enjoy driving.
Previous cars include a Renault Dorphine, Holden FJ, Volvo 244, Porsche 911, VW Beatle 1967, BMW 318i, Holden Commodore VT, and in a week, a VW Golf 2.0 FSI Comfortline.

Beat that! My Commodore is a great car, very comfortable, but so, so hungry on juice. Almost need a trailer on the back with a 44 gal drum filled with fuel.

I'm excited, not too old to wet my pants in anticipation for my new acquisition. Just love the Golf styling, and I presume the mechanicals. I've been reading through the handbook, and am swamped with all the features.

It's a 2006 model, silver/grey, with 70,000 kms on the clock. Buying it from a nephew who has kept in pristine condition, and had it serviced by VW from new.

From this Forum, I have the name of a fella in Hoppers Crossing, vw_tech that knows VW's. Anyone else like to comment on his service?

That's it for my first post and intro.

    Ken

      Hi GM,

I think it was a 1974 model, it was a far while ago. It was the last of the thin bumper model, and in perfect nick. The only thing I didn't like was the sportmatic transmission. With a flat battery, it couldn't be push started. Got caught out in the city of Melb once, how embarrissing with a couple of "loverlies" onboard.

The previous owner, a doctor from Brighton, had the car stripped right back to bar metal and repainted. Blue, the colour of a Foster's can. My kids just loved being taken to school in it, even it was a tight fit.

Should never have sold it. Purchase price $19,000, sale price $22,000 12 months later. Had a lot of fun, most fun was washing it, such smooth sexy lines. In all honesty, it wasn't the best car I've had to drive, too light and subject to cross winds. Shortfalls soon forgiven.

oh man why did you sell it! I'd love a classic 911. Shortfalls or not, what a classic!
