  • It's taken a long time but I'm here now

    Hi all,

I can't believe it but this is probably the third or fourth attempt to write my first post. Each time before I've sort of had something happen that as locked-up and caused me to lose everything I've written.

    Anyway here now.

My VW (group anyway) experience began with a 1.6 lt A3 I bought new in '98. It was fantastic! Fantastically smooth, fantastically agile around corners, fantastically finished, fantastically intuitive and ergonomic to use and finally, fantastically heavy and underpowered for its weight.

Once married, the family option came in the form of a V5 Bora. It was great and would just cruise for miles really smoothly. Though it did have a few niggles such as a rattle in the dash (not loud but you know how these things can annoy). I remember screaming at the TV every time that VW ad was shown with the couple driving at some outback garage in a golf and him getting out to oil her earrings because they were squeaking; "It's just not true!". Also, it had a very low front which my wife through no fault of hers managed to get caught on a concrete sleeper when reversing out of a car park, ripping the bumper off in the process!

I left the fold when I was offered an incredibly low resale by a VW dealer on my Bora. I bought a Mazda SP23. It was OK.
Speed and handling were fine but noise! I'd never heard so much road noise! It was also poorly designed in the "it just works department". For example the boot needed to either be opened from the driver's seat or with a set of keys. It was not just unlocked and ready to open when the rest of thecae was unlocked.

Anyway, came back to the fold last year with a 147 Tiguan. Until recently (more in another post) I've been ecstatic with it.

Sorry about war and peace above.

    Very happy to be here.

Welcome mate and the road noise is terrible in the Mazda 3's, my mums got one and my bora is so much quieter and I think I may have the same dash rattle as you had haha
