Hi Everyone,
Not sure if I am doing the this the right way but I am a desperate mum who bought a 1999 Polo Open Air Auto from a dealer as a first car for her daughter back in March.
Since the first day we drove it home it has been stalling intermittently. Typically did not stall when we test drove it!
Doesn't happen every time, but starts again straight away. It only happens in the idle position (when you are sitting at lights for instance) or when you take your foot off the accelerator to slow down.
We have had it to VW specialists who put a new distributor on...that didn't fix it...they then said it was the throttle body...we put a new one of those on...that didn't fix the problem either.
The computer doesn't come up with any faults and my regular mechanic, who has been fantastic and spent so much time trying to sort the problem has all but run out of ideas on what it could be. They have cleaned all filters, fuel etc.
You used to be able to tell when it was going to stall the "taco" needle (hope that is the right word) would move up and down and the engine would cough a bit and then die......now it has become more silent and just "dies".
I fear for my daughters safety if it stalls at the wrong moment as she is only a new driver. She loves it and when your accelerating and driving it, it runs beautifully!!
is there anyone out there who might have some idea what the problem could be? PLEASE !!!!
At first I thought it might be injectors, but it would happen all the time wouldn't it?
Is it possible for the computer to instruct the engine to turn off?
Hope someone can help, thanks, Mrs Desperate
P.S. We don't want to on-sell it to someone to have the problem, plus have already spent so much on it.
