Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VW Golf 118TSI ECU upgrade

    hi guys and gals,

I was thinking of getting an ECU upgrade for my VW Golf 118TSI DSG(2010).

Love the car but the lack of power causes a bit of a 'shuddering' sensation at very low gear changes. VW service said they ran all the tests and it was fine. So they presume its something to do with power. Anyone have a similar problem? Anyone reccomend good companies to do the ECU upgrade with? If its even worth it? I saw online some companies called APR and BSR?

On a side note, anyone get loud sounds from the suspension when they get in or out of the car? Im not a big guy, but again, VW service claim they cant find anything wrong.
On a further side note, can ppl provide a good VW authorised service centre where they do outstanding work in NSW? I go to one near my work in the mid north coast and i have a feeling they are lacking some experience. Saved up for ages for this car and dont wanna get stuck with issues!

Wow, lots of questions, but thanks in advance for all your expert tips!

Although I strongly recommend a tune for the 118TSI, the shuddering you feel will not be fixed by a tune. Is it just after a gear change where there is some vibration coming through from the engine bay into the cabin? If so, are you shifting it manually or is it in auto?

Do realize that in manual mode the though the car will allow you to short shift very early, which means the engine revs can drop to a point where it struggles to accelerate.

      Hi John,
It shudders as i am accelerating. Its an automatic gearbox. You are spot on with the description, it comes through from the engine bay to the cabin....it feels like its behind me...if that makes sense? What could it be?
