Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Newbie from Melbourne with a Tiguan

Just wanted to introduce myself… I have loved VW’s since I was a kid and in 1998 when the New Beetle was released I started saving to buy a New Beetle when I turned 18. In 2004 (with the help of my parents) I bought a 2004 1.6 IKON New Beetle in Silver. Start of last year I bought a 2009 Tiguan 103 TDI in Mountain Grey… Have seriously noticed that drivers on the road treat me a lot differently driving the Tigi compared to the Beetle… I have to admit that I have been viewing these forums for quite some time before becoming a member.

How differently do they treat you in the Tig?

    Any more info on it?

Driving the Tig other drivers treat you like you own the road and you shouldn’t be messed with, ha-ha… When driving the beetle and you put your indicator on to move or merge over cars will just speed up and block you, they also just cut you off leaving not much room for error, and they also can take your spots in car parks even if they know you have been waiting (this happened way too frequently). But the Tiguan you indicate and other drivers let you in without hesitation, they let me out when traffic is congested and no one has ever tried to cut me off or take my carpark… My driving attitude changed a lot when I got the Tig…
Here is my Tig after it's weekly Sunday wash...

        Wonderful!
        Just remember your roots though

I always take care to stop a little way before an intersection so that smaller cars can still creep forward and see around me to go when it is safe.

You may find out that it depends where you drive though. Some people will cut off or drive into the path of the Touareg, usually those in the old Falcons and Commodores and it happens only at the certain areas.
