  • VIC New here, looking at a mk3 vr6 :)

Hey all, just wanted to say hi and compliment you guys on this place, so much info! Anyways, im looking at buying this tomoz: 1994 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF VR6 Private Cars For Sale in VIC - carsales.com.au and was wondering if anyone knows of this car? what should i be looking at exactly in terms of potential problems... I'm not 100% sold on it as i really don't have the knowledge about golf's that I'd like before making this decision. Any help, pointers, tips etc would be very much appreciated

    Thnx, Ben.

7.4 per 100, doubt that. The car doesn't look bad from the pictures. If it was streetable I would get someone like Volkspower to do a pre-purchase inspection for you.

Window regulators, suspension bushes and clutches are pretty much the weakest points for me on MK3s.

Service history, engine oil is quite crucial seen the chain is lubricated by this on the vr's.

        main issues on a VR6 / mk3 would be

        timing chains
        heater core
        a/c
        abs
        window regulators

a well maintained VR6 will run until the wheels fall off.... its the ones that have been neglected that will break your heart and your bank account at the end of the day .

        good luck

I did go check it out today, everything seems good on it, suspension is rock solid (as in no rattles or anything), clutch feels nice and tight and all the electrics work on it (aircon is icey cold, all windows work as they should etc etc..) As said in the ad it does need new front tyres and i did spot a little bit of oil on the bottom of the gearbox when looking underneath it, im not entirely sure if this is something that should be a big worry or not? It has had a fair bit of money thrown at it and seems like it has been well taken care of, I'm just still unsure if i wana lay down the money for it or not lol. Decision's decision's.....

mate at the end of the day its really up to you

a VR6 can be a dream to own but for some a horrible nightmare

i can only speak for myself, but not a day goes by that my VR doesn't put a smile on my face

i have taken good care of it since i have owned and it has never skipped a beat or left me stranded

if everything is in good working order and the body is in good shape that is a reasonable price

            good luck

p.s if you do buy make sure you drop by the mk3 section and say hello

I think almost any amount of money is worth it to hear a vr6 at about 4500rpm.
