Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Been through two already

Hey guys, my name is Dan and I live in Brisbane. I've been in and out of VWWatercooled for a while now, ever since I started looking at buying a VW for my first car about a year ago.

I found this without much problem

Drove it for about 6 months doing a bunch of small mods and became quite attached, just as this happened

Needless to say it was written off, it wasn't my fault though so I got all of what I had spent back through insurance.

It was a harder search to find a new Bora but it was exaclty what I wanted. I picked up this v5 after about two months and its awesome.

Hoping to get some tips and tricks from you all!

    Thanks guys

    Edit; pics should work now

Welcome to the forums. You sure can post pictures.... you need to use [ IMG ] tags (without spaces, as is standard for most forums) rather than HTML code.

Coolies! Shame about your first VW! I had much the same luck. Had been thinking about a VW for a few years, finally went out and got a rare fully loaded MKV GTI with only 8k on the clock (and I mean, literally every option), and had it for 4 months when it was written off through no fault of my own.

I'm on my third one now though

                normally around 30-40 cars.

                Probably 50% stock, 50% modified.

welcome to the forum mate, feel for you with the previous bora... my last mkv gti ended up upside down 3m of a bridge after attempting to avoid a kangaroo around a 90 degree blind corner with single lane bridge... wasn't me either...

good luck with the new one, hope you enjoy your new one as much as i have mine!

I certainly do enjoy it, it is a bit better but I've already had a coil catch fire so that cost me $100 bucks on the first day I drove it

Yeah, it was a repairable write off. Mostly cosmetic damage.

Thanks man, wheels and springs are cheap and easy (although my collection of wheels now exceeds value of the car...), get on it

oh I would gladly take some wheels off your hands, its a pain in the ass to find anything good around here thats sub $1000. Almost snagged a set of Sawblades from a guy in Vic but he jacked the price up last minute.

What coilovers are you on? Where are they from and how much?

haha some might for sale again soon.
havnt seen sawblades in AUS, would have been so vortex
TA Technix, I got mine cheap from another user who decided not to go ahead with the install.
Hit up Lorenz or evorobin from Slammed, get them to find you something nice like FKs. mine are a little lower budget from what I can tell.
