  • New Polo Gti, DSG transmission

    Hi team,

I picked up my Polo GTi last weekend and so far so good. It's pretty rad. The only question I had was regarding take off.

I haven't owned an auto or sports shift vehicle in my life, and I am not sure if I should be concerned or not.

Basically, there seems to be some unresponsiveness when I accelerate, both from a stationary start and when I am moving. I read some posts about the DSG transmission causing this, but I feel a little uneasy about it particularity when trying to enter busy traffic. Sometimes when you decide to go, you really have to get going and can't afford a second or two lag.

Is this something that I just need to get used to or does it sound more sinister?

I usually drive in 'D'. I haven't really tried out 'S' or Tiptronic yet. Not sure if that is worth mentioning.

(As a secondary question, when should I be driving in 'S'? Just around town to impress the fans?)

    Thanks!

    Welcome Knighty.

That is a characteristic of the transmission - Sport mode is slightly better, but the gears hang.

Takes a while to get used to, but once you are, you will be accelerating into the traffic like a pro

To put it into context, my previous rides have been significantly less impressive than the GTi. Like 2003 models and older.

The DSG transmission is taking some getting used to but only because (from what I have read) it does not respond like a typical auto.

I am of the opinion that once you get used to it, it isn't an issue, and picking up chicks becomes standard. Just kidding about the chicks thing.

Of course, if there are more experienced GTi users out there with more info, it would be great to hear from you.
